Could you tell us about your business?
Bharat Floorings and Tiles (BFT), a 96 year old company has created many of the trends that you see in interior design today. With its constant focus on innovative design, the company produces new ranges of products every year that are used in the trendiest residences and restaurants.
In 1922, Bharat pioneered the cement tiles industry in India as part of the ‘Swadeshi movement’, as a contribution to India’s economic independence, by producing tiles of international quality to replace imports. The best European technologies were brought and modified to create a unique product suited to Indian conditions.
What steps has Bharat Floorings taken towards staying in tune with global/modern trends?
We brought BFT+ Range which is a collaboration with young and visionary designers to create art. Sian Pascale; an Australian architect collaborated with BFT to create a Japanese Line which draws inspiration from the work of Junichiro Tanizaki. Recently, Tania Khosla designed, ‘DashDashDot’ which is a whimsical collection of tiles constructed from lines and circles.
What are the new, innovative or game changing products recently released by Bharat Floorings?
BFT has collaborated with upcoming designers to create BFT+ which are contemporary floors. 3D Wall Claddings, Aranya-Inspired by nature in motion, Concrete Furniture, Concrete Objects and Micro Topping are its latest offerings which can turn any space into a vibrant and beautifully designed area. Recently, BFT has introduced the ‘Made In India’ series.
How do cement tiles compare to other materials for floors and walls?
Cement is incredibly durable. Floors can last up to 60 to 70 years if used and maintained properly. In addition to this, the tiles can be re-polished a number of times, giving them a brand new look as well as take considerable wear and tear during their life.
What are the new forms of flooring in demand?
New forms of flooring have emerged and changed existing traditional materials. Designers have started using a lot of concrete materials, including patterned cement tiles and micro-toppings. ‘Heritage™’ tiles have become the rage and the patterns used have started reflecting modern sensibilities with pastel colours, lots of geometric and minimalist designs, as well as some funky use of tile designs to create Ikats.
Cement based micro toppings can be used indoors as well as outdoors and with virtually unlimited design options and quick installation time, micro cement floors can turn any space into a vibrant and beautifully designed area.
What kind of allied services does Bharat Floorings offer to customers?
We offer bespoke custom made floors for our clients in which they can either sit and plan with us to decide on colours and layouts or email the drawings and our team can help them with the process. This typically takes some time, so customers are requested to plan well in advane. Samples can be made for approval and then once the design is finalised, production can begin.
