Poggenpohl’s Encore

The 120 year old Poggenpohl still manages to attract attention from thousands of home owners globally. They have now expanded their base in Mumbai. By Debolina Sengupta

With new companies bringing in the latest fashion into the interior décor sector, there is very little that established companies can do unless they go through a complete revamp. Amongst the oldies is Germany based Poggenpohl, who has managed to stay ahead of its times all through the 120 years of its existence in the world. “A leader will always have competition but what is most creditable to Poggenpohl is that in its 120 years history it has never let go of its position as the most innovative company that has set trends and benchmarks for the kitchen industry at large,” shares Hemendra Sharma, owner of the Mumbai Poggenpohl store.

Indian home owners can now rejoice at their very own Poggenpohl showroom at Mahim. The September 9th inauguration also lifted the veil off the new furniture line launched by Interlübke and seating systems from Cor. “Interlübke is the first company in the world to make modular wardrobes; in fact they started the trend. Cor is famous for its upholstered furniture,” explains Sharma.

The 10,000 sq. ft. Poggenpohl showroom in Mumbai houses the best international kitchens perfectly suited for new age home owners. Designed by Pinakin Patel, it is also a space where architects, interior designers, master chefs, artists and fashion designers will be able to present curated shows.

Modular Kitchen in Poggenpohl

The showroom area is designed to simulate a home with products offering several options to its clients for their homes. “We have seen the market accepting more and more of factory made kitchens over carpenter made ones. The trend to have more designer vis-a-vis more storage cabinets is a new trend,” says Sharma. “For this reason all the kitchens have more of a design flair without compromising on their functional aspect. We have shown larger-than-life kitchens in order to induce clients and architects in giving kitchens a more favourable space in their interiors – to make kitchens the soul of the house and a pride of place in Indian households.”

Though known as a kitchen brand, the Poggenpohl store will also offer home solutions from other leading brands

Since the company’s 2000 revamp, Poggenpohl has never looked back proving to be one of the front-runners of the modern day furniture industry. Back in 1962, when the world was still looking at unit kitchens (also introduced by Poggenpohl), it introduced a new concept – fitted kitchen range, which became an instant trendsetter amongst home owners. The “kitchen” company has come a long way from those days.

The store also featured products from Interlübke and Cor

“Poggenpohl in its long journey has written pages of furniture history. It is better than most because it offers the latest systems, designs and flexibility to meet any demanding situation be it in terms of design or finishes,” shares Sharma.

One look at the products on offer by Poggenpohl and the ever rising demand for international quality furniture. There is no doubt that home owners in India are looking at quality living and bettering their lifestyles.  Sharma elucidates further, “We are quite positive on the new showroom and with the response we receive from our visitors it is definitely a step in the right direction.”
